As of 1 November 2025, Home Care Packages have been replaced by the Support at Home program – bringing together all in-home aged care supports into one simpler, more flexible system. Please visit our new Support at Home page for more information.
This shift to Support at Home follows the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, which called for stronger, fairer, and more accessible care for older Australians.
What’s New with Support at Home?
More tailored care: Eight care levels replace the old four, giving you services that better match your needs.
Smarter structure: Services are now grouped clearly into everyday living, independence, and clinical care.
Transparent funding: Package management fees are built into service costs, with clearer government contributions.
Streamlined access: A single assessment system makes getting support faster and easier.
Extra funding: Up to $15,000 available for assistive technology and home modifications.
Better quality and safety: New regulations will strengthen care standards across all providers.
Support That Fits Your Life
Like the former Home Care Packages program, Support at Home covers:
- Everyday tasks like cleaning, gardening, shoppingand meals
- Clinical care—including nursing and physio
- Home modifications for safer living
- Restorative and end-of-life support.
What does the change to Support at Home mean for Home Care Package clients?
For clients who were assigned a Home Care Package before 12 September 2024, a ‘No Worse Off Principle’ applies, so clients will continue to receive their current home care package funding under the Support at Home program, until there is a change to the clients care needs requiring a higher-level package.
For clients who were assigned a home care package after 13 September 2024 – 30 June 2025, clients will continue to receive their current home care package funding under the Support at Home program, until there is a change to the clients care needs requiring a higher-level package.
