We work together to create healthy, equitable and thriving local communities.
At BHN we recognise that everyone’s health is influenced by the conditions under which they were born, and where they live, learn, work and play.
Health promotion creates opportunities for communities and populations to understand what influences their health and wellbeing and the actions we can take together to create healthy equitable and thriving local communities.
Our Health Promotion Team works across Bayside, Glen Eira, Stonnington, Port Phillip and Kingston City councils. We work alongside the community, local government, schools, early childhood services, public housing, and other organisations to influence and create change by building on existing strengths and developing the capacity and skills of our community.
Our Strategic Priority Areas
- Healthy eating and food environments
- Active living and movement
- Mental wellbeing
- Violence and injury prevention
- Smoking and vaping
- Climate change and its effect on people’s health
- Gender equity
This plan aligns with the Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2019-23

Towards Size Inclusive at BHN
Our Health Promotion team has been working towards a size inclusive approach to health promotion since 2021.
We want to support organisations and community to create more inclusive and equitable environments for everyone including people in larger bodies. We have developed the Towards Size Inclusive Health Promotion resource to support our approaches to promoting health and wellbeing.
View our Size Inclusive Resource here .
We then commissioned researcher Jo Farmer to lead a project engaging both our community and staff to explore current practices around size inclusive healthcare. This report captures stories, evidence and recommendations to guide BHN moving forward.

Better Start Project
The Better Start Project aims to improve the health and development outcomes of children living in public housing in the City of Port Phillip.
The project will work with families living in Park Towers to better understand their experiences of raising children and to develop new ways to support families.
