Movement and Active Communities

Our focus areas:

  • Increase availability and accessibility of sports and recreation activities.
  • Increase safety and accessibility of spaces for informal movement.
  • Increase community opportunities to build confidence and skills for movement.

We work and partner with sports and recreation clubs, local councils and community organisations.

Strengthen your sports club’s impact on community health and wellbeing

Sporting clubs and community sport have a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the health and wellbeing of their members and the wider community. When clubs are welcoming, safe, and inclusive, they help strengthen community resilience, support mental wellbeing, foster lasting social connections, and make participation accessible to more people. Our Health Promotion team partners with sporting clubs to take a whole-of-club approach to health and wellbeing. This support is free and tailored to your club’s needs, strengths and context.

Our Health Promotion Team also works with recreation and leisure settings, local government, sporting bodies, community organisations and spaces to promote health and wellbeing across the broader community.

Humans Moving

We promote the use of local community voices and stories about the ways people like to move, the benefits they gain, and barriers they face in planning, design, delivery of programs and activities. We share stories that challenge stigma, celebrate movement and showcase local opportunities to be active.
