Helping Men and Families Build Safer Homes and Heal from Violence
During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we’re shining a light on the Men’s Behaviour Change Program run by our Family Violence team.
Family violence affects people in ways that can be hard to put into words – it can impact confidence, relationships, and the ability to feel safe at home. At BHN, we’re dedicated to breaking the cycle of violence and helping families heal. A key part of this commitment is our Men’s Behaviour Change Program, which supports men to take accountability for their actions and build safer, more respectful relationships.
Men’s Behaviour Change Program
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home. BHN’s Men’s Behaviour Change Program helps men who have used violence to understand their behaviour, take responsibility for their actions, and develop healthier ways to manage conflict.
Over 20 weeks, participants take part in group and individual counselling sessions that encourage reflection, accountability, and practical strategies for change.
Children, partners, ex-partners, and other family members are also supported by the program to ensure that everyone affected by violence can access the help they need. This includes:
- Information, support, and referral to other services
- Safety planning and risk assessment
- Care coordination and case management for families.
- Counselling for women and children (limited capacity available).
Accessing the Program
The program is targeted at men (and their families) who live or work in Port Phillip, Stonnington, Bayside, Kingston, or Glen Eira. Participants from other areas are also welcome.
During the assessment process, BHN staff work with participants to discuss the program, understand their situation and goals, and plan for meaningful participation in the Men’s Behaviour Change Program.
The program is run during evenings at various BHN locations. To find out more visit Men’s Behaviour Change Program Melbourne or contact 132 246.
