Our focus areas:
- Increase availability and accessibility of sports and recreation activities.
- Increase safety and accessibility of spaces for informal movement.
- Increase community opportunities to build confidence and skills for movement.
We work and partner with sports and recreation clubs, local councils and community organisations.
Key initiatives:
Healthy and Inclusive Sports Clubs
Community sport, clubs and other organised sports settings can contribute to community resilience, improved mental health, social connection, and encourage enjoyable movement for everyone. We are working with sports clubs to take a whole-of-club approach to promote inclusive, accessible, and welcoming sports clubs for all.
View our BHN Sports Club Support Flyer for more information.
We are supporting sports clubs with:
- The Healthy Sports Clubs Framework, developed and piloted by Monash Health
- The Fair Play and Respect Guidelines, adapted from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Guidelines for Preventing Violence Against Women: Taking Action Through Community Sport
Our Health Promotion Team also works with recreation and leisure settings and community spaces on inclusion, accessibility, and health and well-being.
Humans Moving
We promote the use of local community voices and stories about the ways people like to move, the benefits they gain, and barriers they face in planning, design, delivery of programs and activities. We share stories that challenge stigma, celebrate movement and showcase local opportunities to be active.
