Social Connection and Inclusion

Our focus areas:

  • Reduce discrimination and foster inclusive communities.
  • Increase connection to community and culture.
  • Increase community resources, knowledge and skills for mental wellbeing.

Key initiatives:

Early Threads

We support storytellers, facilitators and bicultural workers who run LOTE (Languages Other Than English) storytime sessions in local libraries to strengthen how sessions support early wellbeing and development. This includes supporting curation of age-appropriate books and activities linked to early foundations for lifelong health and wellbeing, such as food exploration, movement and play, emotional literacy, relationships and everyday routines.

Local Arts and Culture

We work with local arts galleries to strengthen their role as inclusive community participation spaces by supporting community-facing programming that expands audience reach, increases regular engagement and creates opportunities for social connection through creative expression and shared cultural experiences.

Size Inclusive Health Promotion Community of Practice

We run a practice-based learning network for health promotion and public health practitioners focused on improving how size inclusivity is applied in routine practice. The network provides a structured forum for participants to share practice examples, discuss implementation challenges and exchange practical approaches to reducing weight stigma, improving communication, and designing programs, spaces and services that people of different body sizes can use comfortably and safely.

Community Gardens and Green Spaces

We work with community gardens and local green spaces to support participation in food growing and outdoor activities, strengthen links with local services and community groups, and create regular opportunities for social connection, movement and use of open space.
